Curriculum Vitae

George Christakos is the S.M. Birch Chair and Distinguished Professor of Geography at San Diego State University. Dr Christakos’s teaching and research activities focus on spatiotemporal modeling of interdisciplinary systems in earth, ocean and atmospheric sciences, environmental health risk assessment, space-time epidemiology and medical geography, temporal GIS and spatiotemporal statistics. He has participated in research and development projects in US, Mexico, Spain, Italy, UK, Belgium, Switzerland, Greece, Russia, China, and Egypt. He is the author/co-author of 10 books and over 200 research papers in peer reviewed scientific and engineering journals. His laboratory has developed the SEKS-GUI software library of spatiotemporal data analysis and mapping that is used worldwide. Dr. Christakos was previously a Professor at the School of Public Health and an Adjunct Professor of the Department of Statistics, both at the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill (USA). He has been awarded visiting professorships in China (International Experts Chair-Ocean College and Yongqian Chair-College of Environmental Sciences & Natural Resources, Zhejiang University) and Greece (Department of Mineral Resources, National Technical University of Athens). Dr Christakos is the Editor-In-Chief of the journal Stochastic Environmental Research & Risk Assessment.
